ABSTRACT

Furniture refers to movable objects intended to support various human activities such as sitting for chairs, Stools and Sofas, eating and reading for tables and sleeping for beds. A desk or bureau is a piece of furniture with a flat table-style work surface used in a school, office, home or the like for a academic, professional or domestic activities such as reading, writing or using equipment such as a compute. Lack  of good tables in offices make academic activities different  and slow, hence a conventional office table of 4FT width and 2FT depth 20 inches high knee space under the table, with three drawers was constructed. The construction was carried out for comfort ability, relaxation and also Gesthetic look. The table made of metal frame, medium density fibre wood (MDF), Steel rails, handles, screw and edge tape. The tables have three drawers which are made separate from the main table.

CHAPTER ONE

1.0     INTRODUCTION

1.1     BACKGROUND OF THE WORK

A table is piece of furniture with a flat top and one or more legs, providing a level surface for eating, writing or working at. A furniture refers to movable objects intended to support various human activities such as sittings e.g chairs, for sleeping e.g bed. Furniture is also use to hold object at a convenient height for work or to sort things e.g cupboards and shelves. A table is an important factor in our health it enhance our performance in workplace, considering the staff offices, they spend most of their time working using the table for easy writing and documentation. Lack of table in the office affects the activities of the office and health, it result into hard situation as poor office table lead to more inappropriate muscles  activities the reason for this research  is to solve the problem of load table that will ease the problem of bad writing and documentation will be easier

1.2     STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

To minimize missing and damaging of documents and to store document neatly and safely for future use

To correct the case of bad writing postures the problem observed is that the staff office table some are very bad and are not made of modern wood like the medium density fibre wood ( MDF), and some are without drawers for storage of documents.

1.3     AIM AND OBJECTIVES

The aim of the project is to construct a office table comfortable for easy reading, writing and documentation to enhance academic activities the aim will be achieve through the following objectives

ü Carry out design analysis and calculations

ü Construct the table to the conventional standard

1.4     SCOPE AND LIMITATION

This project is limited to construction of table for office usage only

1.5     SIGNIFICANCE OF THE WORK

The portable office table was constructed for good provision of writing and reading posture comfortability and relaxation while writing wider space and more drawers to accommodated important documents and the furniture is aesthetic in nature

1.6     CONTRIBUTION TO KNOWLEDGE

As an engineering student practicing what we have learnt in class is essential, the knowledge gotten form the construction process or during the course of project will be effectively put into  use. the project work has some major processes in construction of table, this has contribute a lot to my practical knowledge
