INTRODUCTION
1.0 BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY
According to (Olohunlambe, 2006) A filling station, or petrol station is
an establishment that sells fuel and lubricants usually gasoline
(petrol) or diesel fuel. Some stations carry fuels like liquefied
petroleum gas (LPG), natural gas, or kerosene. In recent times, filling
stations have added shops to their primary business and convenience
stores are now a familiar sight alongside pumps.
However malpractices observed in managing the organization where money
in form of cash, passes through many hands before getting to the final
destination (highest in command) are at least reduced if not eliminated
if this system is adopted. It is worthy to highlight here that this
system helps to guide the manager on what to do and how to do it,
achieving maximum sanitation and transparency in the corporation, while
increasing the team spirit in the workers through bonus incentives and
allowances made available to them. The increasing need for planning and
expansion of business to allow for maximized profit, using information
system cannot be over emphasized. With the aid of this system, the man
at the helm of affairs can easily slot bonus to workers, calculate the
quantity of products sold, pay salary/wage to his staff, keep accurate
record of staff personal data, know the status of the workers whether
retrenched, suspended or working. He can also generate reports of
interest and, above all, enhance the security of data available to the
firm; retrieval, addition and modification of records, among other
things are made possible.
1.1 STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM
In the existing System, the petroleum stations has manual dipping which
is unsuitable process for modern forecourt, because of the time wasting,
and also it expose site staff to potential harmful hydrocarbon vapors
and also places them in a high risk environment.
So also due to manual recording, pumps reading are tempered with, fraud
is a common incident because in most cases the earnings for the days are
kept in the office till the following morning or until it can be
transferred to the bank.
1.2 AIM AND OBJECTIVES
The aim of this project isto design an interface that will simulate the
underground tank to confirm if there is still available fuel in the
tankor not and also to keep record of all sales in the filling stations.
Objectives of this project work are as follows;
• To design an application that will keep track of the new product or
the number of liters of petroleum supplied to the filling station.
• To simulate a systemthat will monitor underground tank process.
• To create a database that will keep record of daily transaction of the filling station.
1.3 SIGNIFICANCE OF THE STUDY
The project work will help companies cut expenses by minimizing the
amount of unnecessary part and production shortage. It also helps
distributors, wholesalers and manufacturers to optimize their warehouse.
Also help manufacturers, to see and understand the condition and level
of stock control.
1.4 SCOPE OF THE STUDY
The scope of this study is limited; the data collected covers only the
Shema Filling station, Kawo, Kaduna. Thisproject will cover all the
aspect of transaction in Shema Filling station, monitor the availability
of petroleum in the underground tank.
