ABSTRACT
The concept of ICT has greatly contributed to the success of education many nations, Nigeria should not be an exception. It is based on this premise that this research work dealt with the impact of information and communication technology on universal basic education in primary and junior secondary schools in Osogbo metropolis.
Stratified random sampling technique was used to select 10 schools from Osogbo south and 10 schools from Osogbo east making a total of 20 schools used for the study. A closed type of questionnaire was designed as instruments for the collection of data using the Likert Scale. The questionnaire was tagged `Information and Communication Technology Universal Basic Education Assessment Questions (ICTUBEAQ). 100 teachers were chosen through random sampling technique for the study. Two hypotheses were formulated for the study. The data collected were analysed using Pearson product moment correlation.
The results of the findings showed that there were significant relationships between the use of computer, internet service, telephony and broadcasting technologies (radio and television) on universal basic education in primary and junior secondary school in Ilorin metropolis.
Based on these findings, some of the recommendations made were; government should emphasize quality ICT to be set up in schools which would encourage teachers and teacher trainees in new technologies. School heads should ensure that necessary ICT training is given to teachers so as to be able to teach the pupils or students effectively. School teachers should be ready to tap into the potentials that are offered by ICT in other to enhance the quality of education by creating interest in ICT.
