This research work titled “the causes of divorce and its effect on child up bring among women in Oji-River L.G.A, Enugu State examine the relationship between divorce and its effect on child up bringing among women in Oji-River L.G.A. The researcher adopted survey design. The population of the study consists of the entire population of Oji-River L.G.A, which consist of 79,280. The sample size of this study is 399. The sampling techniques used in this study are purposive and stratified random sampling techniques. The instruments used for data collection are questionnaire and structured interview. The instrument for data collection (questionnaire) was validated by the supervisor and two other experts from the Department of Sociology. For the reliability of the instrument; a test-retest was carried out using 20 respondents who were not included in the main study. In analyzing the data, the researcher used tables, and mean scores was be calculated. The study findings revealed that women in Oji-river upheld the idea of single parenthood, the study shows that divorce occurs in every part of Oji-River Local Government Area at rate which varies between years. the study identified that at early stage of development, child or children of single parent may suffer malnutrition; educational deprivation; economic instability in future time and children of single parent are not completely developed. The following recommendations were made: young women should be properly educated on effects of divorce on them, some traditional beliefs that supports divorce or separation should be discourage, etc.
