ABSTRACT

Poverty the dreaded disease stands as a stumbling block to the child

directly or indirectly. While genuine efforts are being made to

articulate poverty alleviation programmes that positively impact on the

child,     UNICEF,      government      and     several      development      partners

recognize that more creative strategies will be required if we are to

attain the decade goals. These creative joint strategies are well spelt

out in the UNICEF-Nigeria country programme of cooperation (1991-

1995 and 1997-2001) which Kaduna state benefited from. The

specialized areas of contraction of the country programme are

education, health, nutrition, water and sanitation with regard to

Kaduna state. The data collection and analysis were basically to assess

the emphasized for it is the pivotal point around which sound health,

good nutrition values, drinkable water and sanitation evolve, they can

be seen as part of a major system for all a redirect dependent upon the

other. Without doubt, the poverty profile of children of Kaduna state is

and will always continue to remain in the hands of the policy makers,

this will remain a fact that their livelihood is in their custody. The

obvious change is that children development should also be a priority

as developing children in a positive direction helps to concretize the

quality of the citizens of a nation.
