Abstract
The study looked at the perception which lecturers in the University of Uyo have of the Udom Emmanuel Dakkada philosophy. The survey research method was used for this study with population of 1,192. Data were gathered using questionnaire from two hundred and ninety-nine respondents. However, two hundred and ninety copies were completed and returned valid for the study. The objectives of the study were to: find out if lecturers in the University of Uyo are aware of the Udom Emmanuel Administration’s Dakkada philosophy; understand University of Uyo lecturers’ analysis of the Udom Emmanuel administration’s Dakkada philosophy; identify University of Uyo lecturers’ view and perception of the Dakkada philosophy; examine reason(s) for the perception of University of Uyo lecturers of the Dakkada philosophy; and ascertain whether the perception of University of Uyo lecturers influences their participation in Akwa Ibom State politics. Hinged on the individual differences, attribution and social judgement theories of communication, it was found out from the study that: Lecturers in the University of Uyo are well aware of the Udom Emmanuel government’s Dakkada philosophy; a majority of the lecturers understand Dakkada as a clarion call, urging the people of Akwa Ibom state to wake up and take active participation in wealth creation in the state; University of Uyo lecturers’ perception of the Dakkada philosophy is that to a large extent, it is beneficial to the state and its indigenes; University of Uyo lecturers base their perception of Dakkada on their exposure to the media; and The perception of University of Uyo lecturers of the Dakkada does not influence their participation in the Dakkada programmes and by extension, their involvement and participation in the politics of the state. Data were analysed using tables and simple percentages and the researcher recommended chiefly that since the philosophy acts as a call for action to indigenes of the state, and bears with it a good message, it should continue even after the expiration of the administration which brought the ideology into Akwa Ibom State.
