INTRODUCTION

1.1     Background of the study

          Information today embraces both electronic and physical information. The organizational structure must be capable of managing. This information throughout the information life cycle regardless of source or format (data, paper documents, electronic documents, audio, video etc) for delivery through multiple channels that may include cell phones and web interfaces. Information management according to Walker Charles (1988:16) is: The collection and management of information from one or more sources and the distribution of that information to one or more audiences.           Information management in radio production comprises of legacy information resident in line of business applications Enterprise Content Management (ECM), Electronic Records Management (ERM), Business Process Management (BPM) Email management (EMM and others. Elonzo, Daniel (1998:29) writes;

Improving information management practices is a key focus for many organizations, across both private and public sectors.

          According to him, this is bring arranged and driven by a range of factors including a need to improve efficiency of business processes, the demands of compliance regulations and the desire to deliver new services. Therefore, this research work seeks to survey how information management is practiced in radio production in Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation, Uyo.

1.2     Historical Background of the Study

          This study has Akwa Ibom State Broadcasting Corporation (AKBC) Uyo as a case study. The station was formerly located at number 206 Aka Road Uyo, but subsequently shift to its operational quarter at Ntak Inyang is the transmitting station while the operational headquarters is situated at number 3 Udo Udoma Avenue Uyo. Akwa Ibom Broadcasting Corporation performs broadcasting both in radio and television transmitting of messages. It was founded in 1988 immediately after the creation of Akwa Ibom State in 1987 from the old Cross River State.

          Since its inception, the broadcasting station has contributed enormously to the economic, political social cultural growth of Akwa Ibom State through ideas shared and information disseminated it is the only licensed and authorized broadcast outfit operating in Akwa Ibom State other Nigerian Television Authority (NTA) channel 12 it is sophisticatedly fashioned to suite with the desires of the modern nation. It works with close supervision by the Nigerian Broadcasting Commission (NBC). The station is broadly divided into departments including marketing, sales, broadcast, news and current affairs among others. It has Pastor Praise Okon as the incumbent Director-General.

1.3     Statement of Problem

          Information management is an indispensable issue needing adequate attention in successful radio programmes production. The sophistication of information management makes it to enter across web content management (CM) document management and others. In many cases, information management has meant deploying new technology solutions, such as content or document management systems, data warehousing or portal applications effective information management is not easy especially in broadcast parlance while relating to radio production. This research therefore is a problematic in knowing the appropriate means of managing information, the system to integrate and above all the complex organization issues to address.

1.4     Objectives of the Study

          This study seeks to;
