ABSTRACT
Brown envelope syndrome is identified as being common among Nigerian journalist. This study focuses on examining the brown envelope syndrome and its effect on the image of the Nigerian journalists with Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna Chapter as a case study. The study utilizes both primary and secondary data. As such, questionnaires were distributed to members of NUJ, Kaduna chapter in the course of generating data for the study. At the end of the study, recommendations were made as to how brown envelop syndrome which affects the image of the Nigerian journalists can be addressed. The findings indicated that poor condition of service and poor salary led to the collection of brown envelopes before stories are being used. While some journalists accept brown envelopes as an appreciation for publishing peoples stories.
