ABSTRACT
This research work was conducted in Keffi; it is an analysis of one of the numerous places that Hausa language has assumed the status of a lingua franca for numerous communities. Hausa in Keffi is a language of trade and commerce, worship, education, communication, entertainment etc for both native and non native speakers of the language. This study was therefore, undertaken to study the nature of the variant Hausa spoken in Keffi with the aim of contrasting its form with the standard Hausa phonologically, morphologically and syntactically. The multi-lingual nature of Kefffi and its environs have pushed the people within to adopt Hausa language as medium for both inter and intra communication purposes. The backgrounds of both native and non native speakers of Hausa in Kefffi have lead to noticeably different or rather variations in phonological, morphological and syntactic formations different from the standard variety of Hausa language. These formations are as results of the influence of mother tongue interference of its various non native speakers and the dynamism or rather uniqueness of Hausa language or what others understood as inherent challenges of the nature of Hausa language, added to that is the conglomeration of Hausa native speakers from different parts of Hausaland.
