ABSTRACT

The study focused on the prevalence of tuberculosis among male in General Hospital Suleja, Suleja Local Government area of Niger state. the aim of the study was to determine the knowledge of tuberculosis and to identify the solution of the problems. Descriptive research design was adopted for the study, the target populations were male. The sample of the study was 150 people systematic sampling techniques was adopted data analysis were done. Using sample frequency and percentage. The major finding of the study were:

-Majority of the respondent are found male with high educational status

-Socio-Economic factors like ignorance among others are ranked high as factors responsible for rate of infection

CHAPTER I

INTRODUCTION

Tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused in most case by micro-organism called mycobacterium tubercle. The micro-organism usually enters the body by inhalatum through lungs. They spread from the initial location in the lungs to other part of the body via that blood stream the lymphatic system via the always or by direct extension to other organ. (OA Ojo Enang Bassey Briggs, P.179, Section edition).

Pulmonary tuberculosis, is the tuberculosis most frequent form to the disease occurring in over 80% of cases of tuberculosis. (Brenna, PJ Nikaidah 1995). the envelope of mycobacterium Anuu Rien Biocken 64:29-63).

Tuberculosis is caused by a germ called mycobacteriums. It usually attacks the lungs and other parts of the body, including the bones joint and brain, people of all ages can contact tuberculosis most especially among mate. The risk of developing tuberculosis is higher in mate, children aged under 3 years and in year old people although one may be affect (Brasic guid for routine immunization services provide; P 10.1

BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY

General hospital suttee is a government owned facility it was established in 1969 by the northern regional government representative Alhaji Ibrahim Tanko.  At its inception the hospital had the male and female wars later the  maternity ward was established after the relocation of the federal capital territory to Abuja, the hospital was temporary manage as a staff clinic during this time the amenity, dental and at ministrative blocks was build.

The federal capital development authority later on handed over the hospital to the state government in 1984.

Basically, the hospital serves about for local government areas, Suleja, Tafa  Gurara neighboring states such as Kaduna FCT Nassarawa and Kogi. member of Suleja community conisit of the middle and lower class of  the society who predominantly are farmers, traders and civil servant respectively. presently the hospital has a bed capacity of 147 with clinic (general outpatient clinics, surgical out-patient clinic ante-natal clinic, family planning  clinic, ginaecology, mate medical children ward. the for working support department also existing namely: record, radiology, maintenance and bio-engineering and pharmacy department. there is in place 15 medical doctors 2  optometrist, 1 rediogist community health officers, 97 registered nurses, 25 midwives, 1 radiographer, 11 community health extension workers 3 social workers.

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM

 For quite some time now the great number of suffering from tuberculosis is a great concern to  our environment and mostly affected by male, it s very unfortunate that many have died due to the infection  despite all  effort by scientist and medical expect to cure.

the interest in picking this topic a subject of research is to contribute and also discover the ways of preventing and control the spread of the tuberculosis in order to reduce those at risk of the disease which  has a close relationship with overcrowding poor housing with ignorance poverty and employee who are high risk of disease due to poor occupational use to unproductive devices.

Therefore this research is motivated by the high provenance of tuberculosis among male in general hospital Suleja Niger state.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

The fundamental purpose of the work is an follow:

i.                    To identify the major cause of tuberculosis

ii.                  To highlight the effect of tuberculosis as it relates to the aged

iii.                To access the level of medical health care in place in management of the disease as a subject and its environment.

iv.               To provide adequate recommendation and suggestion can drastically reduce the incidence of tuberculosis.

v.                 To ensurage general hjgience by the people of the study area which is final analysis will reduce the cause of the disease.
