ABSTRACT

An investigation into the use of ICT (information and communication technology) in teaching Economics in four selected secondary schools in Ibadan local government of Oyo-State was conducted.  The research data was analyzed using descriptive techniques and chi square test statistics.  The objective was to determine whether; teachers made use of ICT in teaching Economics, ICT materials were available and if ICT enhanced teaching Economics. Answers were also sought to the problems teachers faced in using ICT in teaching Economics. Data were collected using 20 item questionnaire administered on Economics teachers.

Findings among others revealed that; about one quarter of Economics teachers were IT literates but very few of them made use of ICT in teaching Economics, Lack of ICT materials to Economics teachers in Ibadan local government. The problems militating against teachers developments in the use of ICT were highlighted which included, lack of support from government and poor accommodation and storage of for the ICT materials. Based on the findings recommendations were made, some of which were; government should provide the equipment in schools for learning of Economics and that teachers should be trained in the use of computer system so as to improved teaching and learning of Economics in schools.
