ABSTRACT
The study examined the effects of government expenditure on economic growth of Nigeria from 1981 to 2015. Specifically, the study investigated the impact of capital and recurrent expenditures on economic growth. The methodology adopted the Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ADL) and granger causality econometric techniques to estimate the models that provided answers to the objectives. The findings show that recurrent and capital expenditure affected growth positively and both of them caused economic growth in Nigeria. It was recommended that government should focus on increasing capital and recurrent expenditures as there will increase growth of the economy.
