ABSTRACT

This work designs and implements an online library management System a case study of Mathematics Department. The system allows people to read documents without damage to the originals, makes the documents more accessible: This is to serve the existing users better; e.g. to allow the users to search the full text of the documents or to serve more users than envisaged in remote locations, example, more than one person at a time. It also created a room for a reuse of documents. It means to convert documents into different formats. A central database was design and implemented using MySQL to provide efficient record keeping and managing of schools record. Drupal and Dreamweaver were used to develop both the user and the administrator interfaces and PHP was used as the server side scripting language to process request between the client and the database. The functionality of the system shows that it achieved high reliability and security in the quality of service to the departmental library. Due to the advantage of the online services, especially the data storage strategy it was recommended that other departmental libraries should make a step in this direction in order to meet the globalization trends.
