ABSTRACT
Having the necessary skill, ability, knowledge in minimizing wastage of materials on building is a goal to which every building firm no matter its size should aspire. This research is aim at Analysis of factors influencing material wastage on building sites in Kaduna (metropolis), which focus on four building materials namely (block, concrete, cement and timber). The objectives set for this study are: To identify the major causes of material wastage, to rank the factors causing the material wastage according to their influence on the budget of the project and to proffer possible means of reducing the wastage. The study was carried out on building project situated in Kaduna. Data were obtained through the use of well structured questionnaire and results were analyzed using Average index and ranking. It was discovered from the analysis that factors such as poor handling, transportation, insufficient planning of site layout, poor supervision, uncertainty of material consumption and lack of maintained path way are the major causes of waste of (block, concrete, cement and timber). Based on these findings the following recommendations were made; proper planning and transportation of material, proper planning of site lay out and supervision and quantity control as a means of reducing material wastage on building sites.
